The red haired Avonx girl first enters the story when serving Katniss a flaming cake. The story of when the girl and Katniss first met inrigued me. What was so horrible in her hometown, causing her to leave and risk life in the wilderness? We do not know much about the districts other than District Twelve; maybe in other districts the conditions are even more dire than the ones in Katniss's district. The girl and the boy were willfully leaving everything they knew behind and blindly jumping into an uncertain future. They must have had incrediable courage to leave the district and venture into the wild alone. But they must have had some kind of destination, leading me to believe that their is another community in existence. We do not here of this community because the narrator only knows what the Capital wants her to know. I admire the girl for her courage and ability to forgive. She does not seem angry at the sight of Katniss and seems care for her so that she does not become yet another vicitim of the capital. Katniss was the girl's last hope and she failed to save the Avonx. Instead of hating Katniss fro this she forgives Katniss. She does not have the choice to express this feeling to Katniss but I believe that the girl wishes Katniss the best of luck.
I disagree with Camille about the red headed girl wishing Katniss the best of luck. I think that the girl has some hatred towards Kitniss since Katniss did not help the red head girl and the boy escape from the hovercraft when she saw what was happening right before her eyes. I don't think the red headed girl completley dislikes Katniss but I don't think she is wishing Katniss the best of luck in the games. But. yet I still am pondering over this relationship between the two girls. Does the redheaded girl have same hatred towards Katniss for not helping her and the boy or does she partically forgive Katniss?
I, for some part, agree with Sarah. Although I think that the Avox girl has completely forgiven Katniss for not help her when she so desperately needed it. I believe that this girl does not hate anyone but the Capitol, which she can do nothing about. But maybe she is not wishing her luck. You do not have to hate someone or like someone and I think that is where the relationship stands. But on the other hand, maybe the Avox girl is trying to be the bigger person and likes Katniss very much. Maybe she feels for Katniss. Perhaps she has seen many other tributes come and go and thinks this one has a chance in winning. Then in that case she most likely would be wishing Katniss the best of luck. But at the point in the book I think you are both right. For now, of course, until we read a little further
I wondered what would cause the Avox girl to run away from the District. I thought maybe she tried to do what Gale and Katniss had talked about, which was running off into the wilderness. Maybe she played a major part in the rebellion, or committed a crime. For whatever reason, I do not think Katniss should feel bad for rescuing her. She would have ended up being put to death or be an Avox. It could be perceived that Katniss being in the games was an act of Karma, and seeing the girl before being put to the possibility of death as a way of saying you should have saved her.
