The Contestents

  1. Rue

Rue is a slight, clever girl who unfortunatly was chosen at the Reaping. Inspite of the location of their homes, Rue and Katniss are very similar. Both girls have an unusual love for their siblings. Both break the law. Both are incrediably clever. And both had the bad luck of being chosen for the Hunger Games. Both of the girls have expirenced hard lives but in my opinion Rue has had the more difficult life. At the age of tweleve she was protecting her younger siblings and giving up her rations for them. She ventured into the meadow to retrieve her food. This was disobaying the law. Unlike District Tweleve, District Eleven is much more strict. Rue had to posess great courage inorder to risk the adventure. Inspite of her depressing, unjust world Rue stayed positive. She must have had a golden heart in order to remain optimistic. In District Tweleve Gale rants about how unfair the Capital is, but those in District Elevn have even more cause for rebellion. Sweet Rue, however, continued to sing even though life got more depressing everyday. She never gave up on her family and lost hope like Katniss's mother. She never became hard like Katniss and never became angry like Gale. It seems unfair that this determined child should meet her end before she got a chance to enjoy life. But, life is not fair especially in Panem. Rue's death will stand as a remind to the people that the Capital does not care whether the victim is a child or an adult, whelther they are kind or angry, whether they are innocent or guilty. Her death and refusal to give into the depression of life will live on and perhaps incite a rebellion. I truely admire this girl and hope that some day I may be half as courageous as her. I hope that in the face of tragety I am able to carry on and never lose hope.

  2. Rue was smart to of made an alliance with Katniss. It was smart because Rue then received things that she did not have, like medicine, food and water. I think the most important thing Rue received from Katniss was a friend because now Rue and Katniss could fight off the other tributes. Rue I believe was probably good at sports. I say this because she was quick and she was agile. I believe Rue was a perfect contestant for the Hunger Games because she knew what herbs were good for her to eat. Also Rue knew how to use herbs to heal her. Rue was a very quiet girl. She knew how to stay away from trouble. Weather it was hiding or running away. I felt quiet sad when rue died because I personally thought that the contestants would never be able to find her.

  3. I was also pretty sad when Rue died because I had expected her to make near the end of the book. And at first I thought that she was going to endnup having to fight Katniss in the end of the games. I was surprised that someone as little as Rue got a seven in her training. But like Daniel said she was a perfect contestant for the Hunger Games because she knew about the herbs for eating and healing.
