Haymatch Abernathy

  1. Haymitch Abernathy is one of the two who won the hunger games for District 12. He is supposed to be helping Peeta and Katniss train for the hunger games but he is not helping them very much. He is a very heavy drinker and is almost always drunk. I think that he is so addicted to alchohol, it is very hard for him to stop. I think he wants to help, but he does not believe in Peeta and Katniss, so he is not putting much effort into helping them.

  2. I think that Haymitch was emotionally hurt in the area. Seeing so many people die must have affected him in some way. When he first came back to District Twelve he must have been excited and relieved. Then he must have realized the grim life that lay before him. He would be socially separated from those in his community and become very lonely. Like Nate said only two people from District Twelve won the Hunger Games so it must have been depressing watching all those children he had tried to help die. I believe that it was this sadness that caused his drinking problem, it was the only way he could escape the sadness of his own life. I do believe he has a good heart but that he has expirenced too much pain in his life.

  3. I think that Haymitch is grumpy all the time because he thinks that no one from district 12 will ever win, so he just doesn't try. He is always drunk to which doesn't help them at all. He agrees to help them in the early chapters although he does not want to.

  4. I think Haymitch is a grumpy, lonely, drunk old man who wants to help but thinks there is no hope for anyone from district 12.

  5. I think that Haymitch is misunderstood, having to watch people he knew get killed right after he trained them. He most likely took up drinking as a way to get rid of the pain he has to live with, and it most likely works while he's drunk. I also agree with Tyler on the reason of why he is so grumpy all the time, realizing his efforts are worthless.
