The relationship between Peeta and Katniss has really started to be strained. When Peeta says he has a crush on Katniss it is a plan to get sponsers but I have a feeling he acually does have a crush on her. When they enter the arena Peeta shakes his head not to run for the supplies, but later you see that he has joined the Careers that are looking for Katniss. This really confuses me about whose side he's on. The relationship would never work anyway because the survival of the one means the death of the other.
I think that these chapters are the most interesting so far in the book. i think that Peeta announcing that she likes Katniss is somewhat smart. I think that Peeta actually likes Katniss, but Katniss thinks it is all a joke. I think that Katniss goes over the top when she pushes Peeta to the ground and cuts his hands. It was very exciting when the beginning of the games start and most of the tributes run for the weapons and supplies. I thought it was cool and smart how Katniss strapped herself to the tree to stay above everyone else. I was also surpised when it said that Peeta was working with the carreers, but then I thought it might be smart because he could be leading the careers away from Katniss.
I love chapters nine through twelve. I do think that Peeta meant it when he said that he liked Katniss. He and Haymitch probably planned it all out though. Haymitch probably wanted to do it for sponcers, but Peeta probably wanted to do it because he really cared for Katniss. When I really got confused was when I read that Peeta was working with the careers. I thought that if he liked Katniss so much that he would work with her. He might have been keeping the careers away from Katniss, but it was still very dangerous. He could have been trying to find Katniss himself but that plan would not have worked very well. Maybe he knew that Katniss did not trust him and was trying to stay away. Either way, it may have cost him his life.
I think that these chapters were probably the most exciting. At the beginning of the games, when 11 people were killed,it personally made me want to keep reading. I did not really know all of the characters yet, so I wanted to see what happened to the rest of them. A few times, I thought that Katniss was going to get caught by the careers, but thankfully she did not. I agree wtih Nate about being suprised that Peeta was with with the careers. I thought that Peeta and Katniss would be together the whole time, but I was wrong. I thought that these chapters were very descriptive. The way the author described the way Katniss felt, and the way she pictured everything really stood out to me. I could really imagine a full picture of the terrain that she was dealing with.
I believe that Peeta really does like Katniss. Katniss however is unsure how she feels for Peeta because she has too many confusing emotions. She does how ever feels used after the interviews because she was left out of the plan. I understand her difficlty in answering the questions Caesar asked. To her the games are manipulative and humiliating. The Capital views it as entirtainment. As you can understand this makes Katniss angry and defensive. She doesn't want them prying into her life and family. She does not like to dicuss her emotions and hates the Capital as a whole. However, it is by opening up and being friendly that she will gain sponcers.
When waiting the sixty seconds before entering the area, Peeta singnals for Katniss not to go to the Cornacoppia. Katniss is distracted and misses her chance to dash in and grab the bow and arrows so she grabs a few items in front of her and sprints toward the woods. Peeta, however, runs into the the middle of the fighting and manages to hurt himself. Then, that night Katniss finds that Peeta has joined the Careers, and is filled with a sence of hatred and betrayAl. I believe that Peeta joined the Careers inorder to protect Katniss. He planned to lead them away from her so that she would not get hurt. Katniss is unsure of what her reaction should be depending on how the Capital reacts. The people of the Capital see Peeta's actions as an act of love. Katniss does not understand this since she grew up in a place where people did not make sacrifices for others. Then Katniss begins to thirst. Haymatch withholds water because she is very close to a pond. He is trying to send her a message. I believe that Katniss and Haymatch are very similar. They can comunicate without words, both are distrustful, and both are incrediblely clever. This is why they do not get along. Finally at the end of the chapters Katniss metions a wall of fire. I don't believe that the fire was started by a contestant because it would have endangered their life as well as Katniss's life. I believe it was started by the gamemakers to bring Katniss and Peeta together.
So far these chapters were the most exciting, I could not put the book down. When Peeta announced he liked Katniss I think he and Haymitch planned this to make Peeta and Katniss both look good. I still think Peeta's feelings for Katniss are stronger then he is showing in the book. He has gone out of his way more then once for her in the book, and I think he has liked her all along. When the games started I was very excited, I did not know that they were actually literally going to be killing eachother...but it is so exciting. I think Katniss will live and win, I think she has the skills. I was SOO excited when she found water!!! The imagry was amazing in the 13th chapter. When the author described the sand paper tongue and how thristy she was I had to get a cup of water to quench my thirst after reading that chapter. I am still questioning why Peeta has made an alliance, and is he looking out for Katniss or ready to kill her?!?! Overall these chapters were very suspence-filled and I am ready to read more!!
I think that Peeta announcing that he has a crush on Katniss is only a strategy to get more sponsers. But when he joins the careers i think that he does this to try and protect katniss. So i think he really does have a crush on Katniss.
I don't agree with nate or robert. I think that Peeta has the crowd hook line and sinker. His skills of public speaking are amazing. he does not have a crush on Katniss. He is lying to the crowds face. i would not be suprised if he wins the hunger games by convincing his opponent to fo jump a pit of fire.
I agree with jd on this one i do not believe that he likes kat and he is trying to coax her into believing he liked her and then at the end he will win the hunger games.
The interviews were a great idea. The canidates get to tell the story oof their lives to the viewers shortly before all but one of them die. The canidates also get to try to sell their personality to get sponsors. Ironic is it not. The final summary of their lives is used to preserve that life.
I wish the author had gone into more detail about the interviews. We really don't know all that much about the contestants. We don't know their likes or dislikes. We don't what kind of life they led. We don't even know some of their names. I am just saying I wish the author could have gone intomore details about the characters lives. And the interviews would be the perfect wat to do it.
I agree with JD and Shane. Since Peeta is good at public speaking how do we really know that he actually has a crush on Katniss? He hasn't really done anything else besides annouce his love for Katniss to prove that he really loves her. I think the only reason he annouced his love for her is because he wants to get more sponsors, like Ian said.
I don't think that it was Peeta's strategy to fool Katniss because why would he have left the Careers and let her go free when he did. Also he had alot of other chances to easily kill her but he didn't. He might have been trying to trick her into making her think she liked him but I do not think that.
The differences between the districts and the Capitol are noticeable. Katniss says that in District 12, elderly people are looked up to, since most people die early. In the Capitol, people want to look younger. She says that a plump person is envied in District 12 because they get enough to eat, and in the Capitol, a person does not want to be plump. I've noticed that our modern Civilization in the US is most like the Capitol, age and weight undesirable. Many poorer countries with not as may resources are like the districts of Panem, the elderly thought of as wise, and the plump thought of as lucky. In the story, even in the future, the way people in different areas of poverty think is similar to the world we live in now.
After reading these four chapters I am really confused about what Peeta is planning to do. I didn't quiet understand why he chose to form a pack with some of the strongest people. I don't think Peeta is going to lead the pack to Katniss if he even knows where she is. But I still can't tell if Peeta has betrayed Katniss or if he has a plan to save Katniss and himself. I hope that Peeta will not betray Katniss and that they will not try to kill one another.
After reading the first three chapters of the Games, I can only imagine how intense all of it is. Katniss wasn't able to get her bow and arrows yet but I believe she is doing pretty well. She hasn't killed anyone, but instead, she has decided to just stay away and let the others kill each other. She has gotten to use some of her skills like setting snares, climbing trees, and camouflaging. Katniss traps a rabbit thank to the help of the snares she set. I also think is more refreshed towards the end of the chapter because she finally finds water.
I agree with Morgan R, I don't want Peeta to betray Katniss. I can tell that Peeta isn't trying to betray katniss because he know that she likes to hide in trees and such, so they could have already lit all the trees on fire to get rid of Katniss. I also can't really tell what Peeta wants to do to Katniss though.
Morgan R. and Dayne, I do not think that Peeta joined the pack to betray Katniss. I think he joined to protect her from the biggest threats that were the Career tributes! I think it is part of his plan to keep Katniss safe. I do not think that Peeta will betray Katniss. If he was going to, he would have, as Dayne said, since he knows most things about her! I think it was all a part of Peeta's big plan to keep Katniss and himself out of trouble!
These chapters were really good. Peeta and Katniss's relationship also confuses me. Peeta says that he loves katniss during his interview, and i know he did that for the audience but i think he really does like her. I did not get why he was shaking his head at her when they had 60 seconds to get supplies and why he teamed up with the careers. I did not shock me when he let her go and run away and he fought Cato. I think that Katniss is really smart when the games begin. I would have tried to get the farthest from the other contestants so you don't have to fight and have the risk of dieing. I am curious to see what happens at the end of the games and i what to read on!
I agree with Regan that these 4 chapter were really good because so many important events happened. I thought these were the most interesting chapters so far. When Peeta said he had a crush on Katniss during his interview, I thought he really meant it. Later when he told Katniss not to go for the supplies right before the Games started I began to question myselft. Was Peeta truly trying to help Katniss and give her an advantage, or was he tricking her so he could join an aliance with the Career Pack. I am also wondering if Peeta wants to betray Katniss by going to the Career Pack or if he is trying to protect her. I am very confusing about Peeta and what he is doing in the Games.
I thought that these chapters were super intense! The 11 people already killed at the beginning of the games made me get so scared! I was so afraid that Peeta was killed. I like Peeta. I agree with Nate about him, I think he was smart to say he liked Katniss. I thought that Peeta was serious when he said it, but once I kept reading I was sad when I found out it was a joke. Although, I think that Peeta may have feelings for Katniss deep inside, which explains why he gave her bread when she was hungry back at home. I also agree with Hannah, I first thought that Peeta was on Katniss's side in the Games and giving her an advantage! Though now I think he may be going against her because he has joined the Career Pack! What will happen next?
I have been reading this book on an Amazon Kindle, and I don't remember most of the parts. The book will just trail off to a memory or break down what someone just said. I think that they could make these parts a little shorter. The Interview I did scarcely remember. And, I do have to share Katniss's anxiety about being up and having to be watched by everyone as they answer the questions.
It did come as a surprise to me that Peeta joined the career tributes for the Games. I'm not quite sure why they let him join in the first place, but he obviously had some skill. Seeing as the book only follows Katniss, it is hard to find out what happens to others in the story. Such as, at the Cornocupia, or however you spell it, there must have been some incident for Peeta to join the Careers. I think it would be a little interesting if they made two stories on the book. The first one would be the classic book, following Katniss, and the Second following Peeta.
These 4 chapters were very good and the most exciting by far. When Peeta said he loved Katniss, I thought he really meant it but I also think it was to impress the audience as well. Peeta really confuses me when it comes to Katniss. He confused me when he was shaking his head at her. I feel like Peeta is playing with her mind acting as though he cares about people not wanting to hurt anyone, but truly does'nt mind to kill. Katniss wants to be friends with Peeta and thinks it would be hard to kill him. There was no surprise when Peeta let Katniss go as I suspected that would happen. My only fear is that he will betray her at the end of the book. When Katniss ran from the other competitors as far as she could, I would have done the same thing. I found Katniss to be really smart when the games began and made some very smart decisions. I am getting even more curious of what the book will bring next.
When Peeta said that he loved Katniss, it was kind of depressing because in the end only one of them can live. But i geus its better to die and know that the person you love knows you love them. I think Katniss should have been more understanding when he said he loved her, she went kind of ballistic when she made him cut his hands. When the Games started I had the weirdest image come to mind. the image was just bloodshed and guts all over the forest ground, and in fact i was not that far off. The most stunning thing in these chapters was wwhat peeta turned out to be. He worked with the Careeres to kill the weaker tributes. he was a disgrace to his people. But i still love the book
I think that Peeta really does like Katniss but im not sure that you could say that he loves her. I think that Katniss is not sure of her emotions for Peeta, at this point she has alot going on and alot of different emotions going throught her. So I think that it is hard for her to decide if she loves him or not.
What really botherd me and what I wanted to know at the end of these four chapters was how the wall of fire was started. There are so many reasons why the fire could have been started, or who or what started it. I would like to belive that the Gamemakers started the fire to bring Katniss and Peeta togather. Thats what made me want to keep reading through the book to find out more in depth about the fire.
when katniss saw the bow and arrows peeta looked at her and she hesitated at the start of the games. she had to run to the trees. i had a feeling that the bow and arrows would play a big part in the games.
peeta joined the carrers because he wanted to survive and find katniss. the fire part of the book was made for people to hypothesise about what happened
Chapter 12 Peeta has joined an alliance with people from various districts. He has left Katniss, but why? Did he leave her because he just could not stand her or because he would have a better chance of surviving in a group, or is it because of both of the reasons? Haymitch had told Peeta and Katniss to stay together but Peeta had left her and she had left Peeta. Katniss and Peeta knew that in the hunger games, groups formed in the beginning of the game usually brake apart. The people in the groups turn against one and another and end up killing each other. Why did Peeta join the group? I think that he joined the group to kick off the hunger games with an easy start, and then plan to break away when the tension was high.
I agree with Colleen. I think that Peeta has developed very strong feelings for Katniss. I also disagree with Colleen. I think that Katniss really likes him. I think that Katniss wants to win the hunger games, but wants to win them with Peeta right by her side. I think that Katniss would do anything to protect Peeta and Peeta would do anything to protect Katniss.
I agree with Anna, I think Katniss and Peeta do like each other very much. I also think Peeta was telling the truth when he said he liked Katniss. I think that Katniss also likes Peeta but doesn't want to tell him so they won't get to close. I also disagree with Anna. At this point in the book I don't think Katniss would do anything to protect Peeta. I also don't think Peeta would do anything to protect Katniss.
I believe in chapters nine through twelve Katniss does her first instinct. Though she knows it is wrong, like on a test their was a hunch that told her to go for the bow and arrow. While distracted by Peeta shaking his head Katniss goes for a backpack instead. Katniss is confused by what Peeta did but I believe he was trying to help her. Katniss was mad at first, but who could blame her he did distract her. Though I suspect he was trying to save her since he knew it was not safe and that Haymatch told them to run instead. She was also confused why he went in after the tools when he told her not to. I believe he was not trying to get the belongings but he was trying to protect her. Katniss then heres that he is in an alliance with the careers. I believe he formed a fake alliance not to get himself killed and acted as if he were to help him but just to steer them in the wrong direction of Katniss. Katniss is too blinded by confusion and survival to see these things nonetheless she must stay focus on perseverance to stay alive. I am convinced that Katniss should always stay with her first instinct while surviving since it did get her a back pack full of wonderful things, and before she found the excellent source of water, she thought to herself maybe Haymatch was telling her there is water nearby. Katniss is a smart girl and I believe she will make it far as long as she believes in herself.
In chapters 9-12 Katniss just found out that Peeta had feelings for her. She fall for it so easily she thinks that Peeta was saying that just to get the crowd's attention so she tries to ignore him. In the beginning of the competition she spots a bow and arrows in a pile of weapons. She made the decision to run for it but then Peeta shakes his head that distracts her and she is unable to retrieve the arrows. So she grabs the backpack instead. During the competition Katniss discovers that Peeta was helping a group of contestants who were trying to kill her because she scored an eleven during the score counts. Katniss is trying to find water and trying to get rid of the fact that her own teammate was abandoning her. But is there danger waiting just around the corner.
These four chapters were very interesting. Katniss had to to think about everything very thoroughly so she could survive the night. The Capitol supplied her with a bright orange backpack to test her knowledge in camouflage. I agree with Ana that there are strong emotions between Peeta and Katniss. I think that in the end they will be the last ones and Peeta will give the victory to Katniss so her family can survive the cruel poverty of district 12.
Katniss had to be careful in these chapters in what she does. I agree with Nick that the bow and arrow will play a significant role in the story. It was smart to leave the bow behind so she didn't let the other players know what her best weapon choice was. I think when Peeta is hunting in the group they will tell him to go kill Katniss and he will tell them he did when he really just wanted to give her an advantage of the other players thinking she's dead. I think in the end Peetas group will be the only ones left and Katniss will shoot the last person standing once they fight it out amongst one another.
In chapters nine through twelve Katniss does her first instinct. Though she knows it is wrong, like on a test, their was a hunch that told her to go for the bow and arrow. While distracted by Peeta shaking his head Katniss goes for a backpack instead when her 60 seconds are up. Katniss is confused by what Peeta did but I believe he was trying to help her. Peeta told the audiunce that he loved Katniss, she didn't take it so well. I like how the chapter talks about Peeta loving Katniss and then at the last minute turns into betraying her. I bet it arouses a lot of questions in the reader's head.
the feelings that Peeta had for Katniss were explained as "part of the plan". she explained his expert lying was a result of his expert acting. i believe that Peeta was using these excuses as a way of saying what he wanted to. resulting, katniss plays along (to some extent).
katniss is so far the most well known over the audience. some of her advertisement she has frowned upon, but i know she is grateful for it. she will defiantly win the games. i know this partly because the book would not have a point if she did not win, and partly because she has such good advertisement.
The relationship between Peeta and Katniss has really started to be strained. I think that Katniss is really smart when the games begin. I would have tried to get the farthest from the other contestants so you don't have to fight and have the risk of dieing. I am curious to see what happens at the end of the games and i what to read on!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Regan that these 4 chapter were really good because so many important events happened.
ReplyDeleteI thought that these chapters were super intense!
ReplyDeleteI have been reading this book on an Amazon Kindle, and I don't remember most of the parts. The book will just trail off to a memory or break down what someone just said. I think that they could make these parts a little shorter.
ReplyDeleteThe Interview I did scarcely remember. And, I do have to share Katniss's anxiety about being up and having to be watched by everyone as they answer the questions.
It did come as a surprise to me that Peeta joined the career tributes for the Games. I'm not quite sure why they let him join in the first place, but he obviously had some skill.
ReplyDeleteSeeing as the book only follows Katniss, it is hard to find out what happens to others in the story.
ReplyDeleteWhen Peeta said that he loved Katniss, it was kind of depressing because in the end only one of them can live.
ReplyDeleteI think that Peeta really does like Katniss but im not sure that you could say that he loves her. I think that Katniss is not sure of her emotions for Peeta, at this point she has alot going on and alot of different emotions going throught her. So I think that it is hard for her to decide if she loves him or not.
ReplyDeleteWhat really botherd me and what I wanted to know at the end of these four chapters was how the wall of fire was started.
ReplyDeletepeeta joined the carrers because he wanted to survive and find katniss. the fire part of the book was made for people to hypothesise about what happened
ReplyDeleteChapter 12
ReplyDeletePeeta has joined an alliance with people from various districts.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anna, I think Katniss and Peeta do like each other very much.
ReplyDeleteI believe in chapters nine through twelve Katniss does her first instinct.
ReplyDeleteIn chapters 9-12 Katniss just found out that Peeta had feelings for her. She fall for it so easily she thinks that Peeta was saying that just to get the crowd's attention so she tries to ignore him.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the competition she spots a bow and arrows in a pile of weapons.
ReplyDeleteKatniss had to be careful in these chapters in what she does.

Peeta told the audiunce that he loved Katniss, she didn't take it so well. I like how the chapter talks about Peeta loving Katniss and then at the last minute turns into betraying her. I bet it arouses a lot of questions in the reader's head.
ReplyDeletethe feelings that Peeta had for Katniss were explained as "part of the plan". she explained his expert lying was a result of his expert acting. i believe that Peeta was using these excuses as a way of saying what he wanted to. resulting, katniss plays along (to some extent).
ReplyDeletekatniss is so far the most well known over the audience. some of her advertisement she has frowned upon, but i know she is grateful for it. she will defiantly win the games. i know this partly because the book would not have a point if she did not win, and partly because she has such good advertisement.
